Tom Harrison: Freelance Creative Web Developer

Welcome, friend. I’m a Bristol based, freelance web developer with 15 years experience. I’ve got a broad range of web related skills and specialise in WordPress and front-end development. The short version is – I know my onions code-wise, have an eye for aesthetics, and I know how to make high-quality websites from start to finish.

My clients include:

  • Small design agencies that need complete development help. I’m happy to help with pitches and scoping out ideas. I’m very designer friendly and I not only see your white space, I appreciate it.
  • Web agencies that need an extra pair of hands in busy periods. Need me to adopt to your coding style and just want to chuck over a Figma/Sketch and get a solid site back? I’m here for it.
  • Charities that need help making their budget stretch and building something that will be easy to use and maintainable for a long time.
  • Small businesses and individuals that need a quality website and someone reliable at the end of the phone who speaks human.

As well as the fundamentals I’m well versed in web animation, 3D, mapping, data visualisations, interactivity and games – AKA creative coding.

I recently spent two years doing iOS app development for Matter Neuroscience. This was working closely with designers and product managers hashing out interface prototypes and helping to design the app from the ground up. It was a mix of scrappy ingenuity and precision polishing when the time was right. It was the first time I’d ever done app development or touched SwiftUI.

My skills as a web developer are transferable – principled pragmatism, problem solving, and always building with the human who will be using the end product in mind.

In my spare time I am making an indie video game called ‘Tangermarine’ where you control a tangerine solider facing waves of undead vegetables.
